The Grace welcomes exhibit of da Vinci inventions

Abilene , TX ( September 26, 2006 ) - Leonardo da Vinci was much more than an artist. He was an astronomer, sculptor, geologist, mathematician, botanist, animal behaviorist, inventor, engineer, architect and even a musician. A new exhibition at The Grace Museum explores da Vinci's genius as an inventor.

The Inventions of Leonardo da Vinci, which opens September 30 in The Grace's Main Gallery, focuses on 16 of Leonardo's drawings reproduced on graphic panels and also realized in model form. Originally developed by the IBM Corporation, this interpretive exhibition encourages visitors to explore scientific concepts of interest to da Vinci, in many cases through hands-on experiences with working models.

Da Vinci invented many products - from armored tanks to helicopters  - that were too advanced for his time. Centuries passed before many of his inventions were developed by other people. Innovators improved and updated Leonardo's inventions to make them more useful for modern times, and entrepreneurs invested money to manufacture and sell the inventions.

The exhibit, which is currently circulated by The Exhibition Alliance, Inc., Hamilton , NY , was donated to The Exhibition Alliance by the IBM Corporation.

The Inventions of Leonardo da Vinci will be on display through December 31.
