Harley-Davidsons roll into The Grace Museum Friday
Abilene,
TX (April 26, 2006) A motorcade of magnificent
motorcycles is rolling into The Grace Museum's Main Gallery
Friday for a month-long exhibit.
Rollin' Thunder:
The Harley-Davidson Tradition, is an exhibition of vintage
Harley-Davidsons dating from the early 1900s to the present
day.
The exhibit, sponsored
by Burchell, Denson and Morrison, P.C., Cypress Street Station,
and Thorne Electronics, takes visitors on a journey through
the legend of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Inside The Grace's
Main Gallery, a 1913 Single Cylinder will stand proudly alongside
18 other Harleys, including a 1936 Model VLE, a 1958 Harley
Hummer, a 1976 SS175, and a 2006 Screamin' Eagle Fat Boy.
The motorcycles have
all been loaned to the Museum through the generosity of Kent
Waddell ( Kent 's Harley-Davidson), Bob Olson (Fast Company),
and Mike Bell of Clyde .
The metal, chrome,
paint and roaring sound of the classic Harley has become a
symbol of the American dream. Over the years, what started
in a 10 x 15 wooden shed by William Harley and Arthur Davidson
became the symbol of American individualism, and ended up
"king of the road" more than 100 years later.
In 1983, the Harley-Davidson
Corporation formed the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) in response
to a growing desire by Harley riders for an organized way
to share their passion and show their pride. Today, nearly
a million members make the H.O.G. the largest factory-sponsored
motorcycle organization in the world.
The West Texas Chapter
of the H.O.G. will welcome more than 5,000 riders to Abilene
May 18-20 for the 2006 Texas State H.O.G. Rally., and The
Grace is offering a special admission discount during the
rally for participants.
Rollin' Thunder:
The Harley-Davidson Tradition will close on Saturday,
May 27.
The
Grace Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through
Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Admission
is free Thursday evening after 5 p.m. For more information
