Kidsville temporary exhibits open at The Grace

Abilene, TX (January 9, 2007) - The Grace Museum has opened a special group of temporary exhibits in their Children's Museum space on second floor.

"Kidsville" is a collection of 12 exhibits The Grace has opened as part of a temporary partnership with children's museums in Midland and Austin .

"We're moving forward with plans to open our new Children's Museum in the Spring, but decided to temporarily open Kidsville as a way to give our young (and young at heart) visitors some unique educational and interactive experiences until the new exhibits arrive," said Dennis Kois, the Museum's executive director.

Air Fair, from the Austin Children's Museum, includes a sailboat race that teaches about the properties of wind; a "Vortex Tame a Twister" exhibit that simulates a real tornado; and "Tube Tunes" which teaches kids about sound using different sizes and lengths of PVC tubing.

From the Museum of the Southwest's Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum in Midland , The Grace has temporarily installed two exhibits. Global Golf: Just Puttin' A Round, which features five holes of miniature golf from around the world, including the South American Amazon, North American National Parks, the African Plains, the Aztec/Mayan Ruins of Mexico, and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Splash, Bang, Boom! Exploring the Properties of Matter and Energy includes "Sink or Float" which teaches about why certain things float in water and certain things sink; "Thick of Things" which explores the science of viscosity through the use of colored (and different thickness) liquids; and "It Matters" which challenges visitors to learn about atoms and molecules.

Also included in Kidsville are The Grace's popular Gravity Well, Recollections, and the Bernoulli Blower. The Gravity Well and Recollections will be part of the new permanent Children's Museum when it re-opens, along with A is for Animal, A is for Art.

The Grace Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Admission is free Thursday evening after 5 p.m.
