New exhibit welcomes vintage race cars to The Grace

Abilene, TX (June 7, 2006)  The Grace Museum is encouraging people to "Race to The Grace" for their newest Main Gallery exhibit.

On The Road Again: Vintage Race Cars Then and Now, which opens Thursday, June 8, is a collection of vintage road racers from across Texas and the U.S.

Abilene businessman and vintage race car driver/collector Robert Hoemke is curating the exhibit that includes a 1961 Indy Roadster that was driven by Mario Andretti at the 1964 Championship Car Race, an Austin Cooper 1275 "S" - a three-time American Road Race of Champions winner - named the Purple People Eater, a 1965 Elva BMW Racer, and a 1969 Lotus Formula Ford.

All the race cars in the exhibit still actively race, and have been loaned to the Museum from the collections of Hoemke, Bruce Revennaugh, Bob Merrill, Bill Johnson, and Jeff Howle.

The exhibit will be on display in The Grace's Main Gallery through September 2.

On The Road Again: Vintage Race Cars Then and Now is generously sponsored by Abilene Eye Institute, Airtite Products, LLC, KRBC-TV, Craig and Patti Jo Mendenhall, The Paint Center, and Tige Boats.

The Grace Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Admission is free Thursday evening after 5 p.m. For more information on On The Road Again: Vintage Race Cars Then and Now , call The Grace Museum at 325-673-4587.
