Grace Announces Volunteers of the Year

Abilene, TX (April 10, 2007) - The Grace Museum announced Volunteers of the Year April 3.

The selections were made public at an annual volunteer appreciation luncheon at the Museum. Three categories of volunteer were recognized, as well as a special award category for a volunteer who has served The Grace for many years.

In the Museum Volunteer category, the recipient is Jane Melton. Jane has served The Grace in many areas over the past year, including the visitor services desk, assisting with administrative duties, and she chairs the committee that plans and organizes the Museum's exhibit openings.

In the Docent category, the recipient is Karl Feuerpfeil. As a Museum docent, Karl leads many of The Grace's tours, from a group of preschoolers to a high school AP art class. In addition, all Docents are asked to attend monthly training, and are encouraged to attend all Grace functions, including gallery talks and lectures series. Some Docents also volunteer to assist in the installation of exhibits.

In the Outreach Docent category, the recipient is Susan Davis. The Grace's Outreach Docents go into the Abilene schools to assist artists-in-residence and teach hands-on art lessons to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. This was Susan's first year as an Outreach Docent, and she has quickly moved into the role of lead teacher. She is also involved in other activities at The Grace such as attending lectures, opening receptions, workshops and serving on various committees.

In a special presentation, Tim McCloskey received a Special Events Volunteer of the Year Award. Tim has faithfully served The Grace for many years through his creative gifts with flowers and other design. He has been the sole flower designer/provider for numerous annual Fall Benefit galas, and has provided countless flower arrangements and other decorations for the Museum.

The Grace Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Admission is free Thursday evening after 5 p.m.
