Unit Objectives

  • The students will demonstrate an understanding of ways corresponding artworks and books created by the same person reflect the times, places, and cultures in which they were created (art history).
  • The students will respond to corresponding artworks and books created by the same person with beliefs about their meaning, purpose, and value, supported by persuasive reasoning (art criticism and aesthetics).
  • The students will communicate interpretive responses to corresponding artworks and books created by the same person, supporting their interpretations with compelling reasons (art criticism).
  • The students will express personal meaning through parallel concepts in art making and writing (art production).

6.1 Perception. The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment.

6.2 Creative Expression. The student expresses ideas through original artworks, using a variety of media with appropriate skills.

6.3 Historical/Cultural Heritage. The student demonstrates an understanding of art history and culture as records of human achievement.

6.4 Response/Evaluation. The student makes informed judgments about personal artworks and the artworks of others.

6.8 Reading/variety of texts. The student reads widely for different purposes in varied sources.
(c) The student will read for varied purposes such as to be informed, to be entertained, to appreciate the writer's craft, and to discover models for his/her own writing; and

6.12 Reading/text structures/literary concepts. The student analyzes the characteristics of varies types of text (genres).
(H) The student will describe how the author's perspective or point of view affects the text.

6.14 Reading/culture. The student reads to increase knowledge of his/her own culture, the culture of others and common elements of cultures.
(B) The student will determine distinctive and common characteristics of cultures through wide reading.

6.15 Writing/purposes. The student writes for a variety of purposes and in a variety of forms,
(A)The student will write to express, discover, record, develop, reflect on ideas, and to problem solve.
(B)The student will write to influence such as to persuade, argue, and request.
