Title
I Arts Outreach Program
The
Grace Museum is now in its fourth year of providing
art outreach to elementary students in the Abilene
Independent School District.
After
serving 5th graders in Abilene's Title I schools seven
times, and 3rd and 4th graders four times during the
2006-2007 school year, the museum is proud to announce
a major expansion of the outreach program for the
2007-08 school year.
Fifth
graders in 14 AISD elementary schools will now be
visited each month by the Grace's art outreach educator.
Each lesson will be filled with hands-on instruction
and art history as the students learn the elements
and principals of art and experiment with a variety
of mediums. 3rd and 4th graders at six Title I schools
will receive two art lessons each semester taught
by the museum's volunteer outreach docents. 3rd graders
will learn about four different artists starting with
“M” and create artworks inspired by those artists,
while 4th graders will tackle four different “isms”
of art in their projects.
The
Grace is thrilled about this year's expansion of the
outreach program. Between the art teachers in AISD
and the Grace's art educators, every 5th grade student
in AISD will receive hands-on art lessons this school
year!
