TEKS CONNECTIONS
Many parents and elementary teachers do
not realize that the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
(TEKS) directly mandates the incorporation of visual art into
such non-art disciplines as Social Studies, Mathematics, and
Language Arts and Reading. The following charts explain how
art is mandated by TEKS:

|
| Introduction: Problem solving, language
and communication, connections within and outside mathematics,
and formal and informal reasoning underlie all content
areas in mathematics...Students use these processes together
with technology and other mathematical tools...to develop
conceptual understanding and solve problems as they do
mathematics. |
